The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute has received a $500,000 donation from a New York-based law firm.

Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP’s donation is funded from a portion of the attorneys’ fees awarded to the firm in the United States v. Jefferson County employment justice case.

The county was placed under a court order to fix the issues in 1982 and was released from the consent decree on personnel practices in December 2020.
